Institutional Accreditation

Think of institutional accreditation as being comprehensive and related to the school as a whole. The post secondary school must meet all the standards set forth by the accreditation organization. This is only achieved through a rigorous peer review wherein the school’s process and procedures, administrative staff and faculty, facilities, student outcomes and services, programs and offerings, professional relations, financial wellness and much more are scrutinized to ultimately receive a grant. Said grant is a stamp of qualify issued to the school and sets it apart from unaccredited schools.

Programmatic Accreditation

Think of programmatic accreditation as being specific and related to a program, profession or specialization. This type of accreditation focuses on curriculum designed for professions generally regulated independently by respective jurisdictions – some of the more familiar areas include nursing, law, education and engineering. The review process and ultimate recognition is more centered on the program.

Regional Accreditation

There are six regions within the United States wherein regional accreditation organizations conduct business. Institutions within these regions are reviewed according to geographic location with the majority of these schools being well established, two or four year institutions, degree granting and nonprofits. This doesn’t preclude for-profits from seeking recognition though.

National Accreditation

National accreditation is conducted by a wide variety of organizations recognized by the Department of Education and their institutions are predominately made up of schools that are non-degree granting and they represent both public and private institutions. Believe it or not, recognition by the DOE is tougher for national accrediting agencies than their counter parts on the regional side.

On Wednesday, January 19, 2011, we released an update to EDlumina Student Information Management System (SIMS).  Below is a summary of the changes.

Completely Redesigned User Interface

In our ongoing effort to provide our customers with the best experience possible, we’re launching a completely new User Interface design for our CRM (Admissions), SIS (Student Management), and LMS (Learning) products.

The new design takes advantage of some of the latest technologies and best practices in the user experience of web applications, as well as feedback from you and our own experience in your shoes.

To-date, we’ve referred to each module of our platform by their acronyms: CRM, SIMS, LMS.

Given that our product is truly an integrated offering, we wanted to have a name that reflected that and also conveyed the value we feel the product has for institutions in illuminating metrics and trends about their institution such as the effectiveness of their admissions process or the quality of the educational experience in creating positive student outcomes.

We feel that EDlumina captures that and we’re looking forward to continue to build our product suite in alignment with that vision.

Cyanna Education Services and the National Association of State Administrators and Supervisors of Private Schools (NASASPS) are pleased to announce the launch of the new NASASPS website (www.nasasps.org).

The new site and logo design were developed by Cyanna – working in concert with the NASASPS Board of Directors – and dramatically advances NASASPS online capabilities.

As part of the new site, individuals will be able to register online for the 2011 NASASPS Annual Conference held May 1-4 in Denver, Colorado. Cyanna again presented at the National Association of State Administrators and Supervisors of Private Schools annual conference. Our co-presentation, along with the Kansas Board of Regents, is titled “Simplify Your Life” and featured an overview of EDvera and a testimonial by Dr. Craig Haugsness relative to the positive impact EDvera has had on their regulatory efforts.   The presentation was very well received with many states indicating a desire to participate on the EDvera platform.

Cyanna’s founders and managing partners, Chris Eckels and Tim Laseke, joined Cyanna’s Director of Consultative Services and current Council Member, Allan Goldberg, at the recent meeting in Albany, New York at the offices of the State Education Department. Deputy Commissioner Kevin Smith presented an overview of the issues facing the Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision. Stephen Bose, Executive Director of the learning Disabilities Association of New York, talked about the challenges faced in implementing the pilot program to assist students with disabilities who are attending Licensed Career Schools. There was also a discussion regarding State Authorization for Title IV purposes and access for ATB students.

Cyanna’s regulatory software platform was chosen by the North Dakota University System (NDUS) to help meets its needs related to state authorization governance. A change in governance was announced for degree granting institutions seeking either an authorization to operate in North Dakota or exempt status. Institutions granting the associate in arts or associate in science degree and higher will come under the jurisdiction of the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Commissioner Victor Calise (Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities) hosted the Annual Summer Barbeques on Monday, August 8, 2013 at Gracie Mansion, celebrating the 2013 Sapolin Awards.

The 2013 ADA Sapolin Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to increasing accessibility for people with disabilities, honors the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, state and local government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation and telecommunications. This year marks the 23rd Anniversary of the Act. The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, established in 1973, serves as liaison between city government and disabled individuals, as well as organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of disabled residents of, and visitors to, New York City.

Allan Goldberg, Cyanna’s Director of Consultative Services attended along with Cyanna client Eric Jackier, President of Enable Career Prep Institute. Allan is a member of the NYC Disability mentoring Day Committee.

The CCNA prepares students to install, configure, and operate a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. Students learn about routed and switched LAN Emulation networks made up of Cisco equipment. The program provides focused coverage of Cisco router and switch configuration procedures. Upon completion of this program students will be prepared to take 100-101 ICND1 and earn the CCENT, followed by 200-101 ICND2. After passing ICND1 and ICND2 students will earn the CCNA Certification. Students can also finish the program and be prepared to take the 200-120 CCNA exam, which is a single exam that earns the CCNA certification.
