What we learned at NASASPS

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending the NASASPS Conference in Austin, Texas. We came away with some great bites of knowledge (and even more bites of tacos). These are four things everyone was buzzing about:

State Authorization and SARA is at the forefront of many minds
This is a big one. There were at least four sessions covering different aspects of this topic, and we overheard and took part in dozens of conversations about it outside formal sessions. As more and more states have joined, more and more unanticipated issues are coming up that need to be addressed. Wonder whether SARA should be on your radar? Just ask us. And for those of you that know you want more info, sign up to be notified when our upcoming SARA courses are released.

Make sure your site is mobile friendly
Google changed its algorithms last year to give priority to mobile sites. What that means for you is that if your site isn’t optimized to work on multiple screens, you aren’t ranking as high in search results as you should and could be. Not sure if your site is mobile friendly? Run it through the Google Mobile-friendly tool.

Student consumer disclosures go digital
These aren’t getting any shorter. But in Ohio, they’re getting more interesting. John Ware, Executive Director of the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools shared with attendees Ohio’s plan to move student consumer disclosures online via an animated video. The online portal makes the disclosures more engaging and helps ensure that students really understand the information.

Schools and states: working together
One final key takeaway was that regulators are truly interested in supporting schools and helping them achieve and maintain compliance. They recognize that it’s in their best interest to have successful schools in their state providing high quality training to drive economic growth. View them as a partner who can help your school serve students more effectively.
